Week one of Pigskin Picks for the 2020 high school football season is in the books and one participant came out on top with no tiebreaker.
The Water Valley at Baldwyn contest was not played so everyone received a freebie on that one.
Several entries gave it a good shot and picked double-digit winners. There were no perfect ballots. However, a pair of locals, Jimmy Whitaker of Corinth and Jimmy Flake of Walnut, turned in 11-2 worksheets.
But they were outdistanced by week one winner Diane Whitaker, who missed only on one game, Tupelo’s loss at Neshoba Central. Whitaker’s 12-1 entry was unmatched and earned the Corinth resident the weekly monetary prize of $25.
As is normally the case, there were a few games that were harder than others such as the Biggersville/TCPS, Neshoba Central/Tupelo and Starkville/West Point games. In fact, only one entrant, Brad Starling of Corinth, picked Neshoba Central to win over the Golden Wave.
This week’s games can be found in today’s Daily Corinthian. All entries must reach the Daily Corinthian office by 5 p.m. on Friday. Official instructions can be found on the official entry ballot each week. Use the door drop box after 2 p.m. each day.
Congratulations to Dianne Whitaker, the 2020 week one winner of Pigskin Picks. Be sure and send in your entry this week and maybe you’ll be the next winner.
And, as always, thanks to everyone for being loyal readers of the Daily Corinthian.
