Northeast runs away with title

Northeast golfer Jake Kilcrease (pictured) stares down a putt on the island green of the par-3, 146-yard eighth hole Tuesday at Shiloh Ridge Golf Course in Corinth during the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference first tour stop of the 2020-2021 academic year. The Tigers captured the MACCC event following Tuesday’s decisive second round. Kilcrease led the charge for the Tigers on the second day. After firing a one-under to open the tournament, he went spotless during the back half and made a charge at the end for individual medalist honors. Kilcrease was just one of four linksters to finish the day in the red and was joined under par by teammate Carson Wilder of Kossuth . Northeast bested MACCC perennial powers Mississippi Gulf Coast and Meridian for its first event win in over a decade as Gulf Coast leapfrogged Meridian late to finish 17-over. Northeast was the only team to record a red day on the par-72, 6,831-yard Shiloh Ridge Golf Course carding a four-under 284. Booneville’s Tate Dickerson shot a two-under on the last two holes while Austin Lauderdale of Booneville was one-under on his last four while Garret Gray of Baldwyn had the biggest turnaround of the tournament improving his play by 12 strokes to finish in a tie for 23rd. Northeast led the tournament in pars (112), birdies (29) and eagles (1). Kilcrease finished second in Par 4 and Par 5 hole average, averaging 3.85 and 4.75 on those holes, respectively and Carson Wilder was the only golfer to average a red round on the Par 3 holes. Northeast’s 291 and 284 rounds bested every other teams’ rounds on either day as the Tigers finished with a 575 two-day total.
