BOONEVILLE — The Northeast Mississippi Community College women’s basketball team lost its final game before breaking for Christmas with a 52-42 decision to Lawson State (Ala.) Community College on Thursday, December 9 inside Bonner Arnold Coliseum.
It was a season-low point total for both teams. Lawson State’s lone double figure scorer was Ananda Hughley with 13 points while Ella Mask had a team-best 10 points for the Lady Tigers (3-8).
Northeast led 13-11 after the opening period with Mask scoring five points in the period. The Lady Cougars (8-0) outscored the Lady Tigers 17-6 in the second quarter to take a 28-19 lead into the locker room.
Northeast was down by as many as 16 points in the fourth before clawing back into the game. However, a handful of key offensive rebounds in the final two minutes by Lawson State thwarted the Lady Tigers’ efforts.
Northeast held a narrow plus-three margin on the boards. The Lady Tigers committed only eight turnovers in the second half.
The Lady Tigers are off until January 6 when Meridian Community College comes to the Booneville campus for the resumption of Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) play.
Northeast’s men’s basketball team is back in action on Monday (December 13) with a road trip to Motlow State (Tenn.) Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Lynchburg, Tenn.
