Lady Braves earn sixth state title

The 2020 Tishomingo County High School Cheer Squad notched their sixth state championship, and their first since 2018, last Saturday, Dec. 12 at Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson, dethroning five-time champion Enterprise. “We have seven seniors on this years team and the majority were on that 2018 squad that won the title,” said head coach Amy Webb. “Everyone worked hard against numerous obstacles including several quarantines for COVID. There were days we didn’t know who would be at practice. Right after camp in June we went into our first quarantine and it went from there. The competition was stiff as usual but as soon as the girls finished their performance they felt like it was a championship routine. We competed against eight other squads representing all classifications so I’m very proud of this group.” Team members and coaches are (front row, from left) Sophie Johnson, Avery Dawson, Chloe Hollingsworth, Megan Cornelison, Brianna Lowrey, Kaitlyn Robinson, Madison Pruitt and Coach Beverly Butler; (middle row, from left) Coach Amy Webb, Coach Trey Griffin, Katie Hollon, Madison Bennett, Amelia Webb, Avery Tapp, Cassidy Lowrey, Emilee Grisham and Maggie Tucker: (back row, from left) Taylor James, Audrey Williams, Alex Turner, Lila Grace Sanderson, Laney Counce and Margaret Claire Riley.
