Kossuth grad leads NE to first-round lead

Northeast Mississippi Community College’s golf team will take a three-stroke lead into the second day of the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference first tour stop of the year at the Shiloh Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday. Northeast carded a tournament-leading three-over 291 with two MACCC perennial powers sitting within striking distance of the Tigers. Meridian, which led a portion of the first day, is three strokes behind while Mississippi Gulf Coast is 13 strokes back. Former Kossuth Aggie Carson Wilder (pictured) and Jake Kilcrease led the way for the Tigers with one-under opening rounds while Booneville’s Tate Dickerson and Austin Lauderdale rounded out the scoring for Northeast with one-over and four-over days. Wilder and Kilcrease are tied for fourth individually while Dickerson is in seventh place in the tournament. Wilder closed out his day on a hot run recording two birdies in his final three holes while Kilcrease birdied No. 18 to help stake the host team to a three-stroke advantage. Action resumes at Shiloh Ridge on Tuesday as approximately 50 golfers from seven community colleges around the state try to tackle the 6,831-yard, par 72 course.
