The MHSAA volleyball playoffs continue Saturday with second round games around the state, including four teams in the Daily Corinthian coverage area still alive.

Alcorn County teams Corinth, Alcorn Central and Biggersville will be in action along with Tippah County school Walnut. The Lady Warriors play at Caledonia at 6 p.m., the Lady Bears will host Water Valley at 2 p.m. while the Lady Lions host Hickory Flat at 6 p.m. and the Lady Wildcats will be at East Webster at 2 p.m.

Also in action Saturday for second round matches are Belmont and Pine Grove.

Should all four DEC area teams earn victories Saturday they would advance to the third round on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Corinth would get the winner of the New Albany/Pontotoc match, Central would play the winner of Belmont/Senatobia, Biggersville would face the Pine Grove/Ingomar victor and Walnut would get the winner of Mantachie/Eupora. All game times for Tuesday’s third round matches are set for 6 p.m.

Should any or all local teams advance past Tuesday they would play in the state championship game in the respective classifications on Saturday, Oct. 24. Title matches for 1A, 3A and 5A will be held at Madison Central High School while 2A, 4A and 6A will be played at Clinton High School.
