Biggersville hopes to parlay division tournament title into state championship

Biggersville junior Zyonn Mayes flies into the lane for a layup in recent game action at the Lions Den. Biggersville recently completed their second consecutive undefeated Division 1-1A championship season at 10-0 before holding off Pine Grove 48-45 in last week’s division tournament title game. Now, the Lions will enjoy home court advantage through the first three rounds of the state north half tournament if they keep winning. It all starts Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. as they host Vardaman in a first-round contest that was originally scheduled for this past Tuesday before being rescheduled for Friday when the first round of winter weather hit the area Sunday and Monday. The MHSAA, on Wednesday afternoon, released a revised schedule that begins with girls first round games on Monday, with the boys playing on Tuesday. The Lady Lions will host Okolona on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Both of head coach Cliff Little’s squads will enjoy home court all the way to the state semifinals, granted they keep putting up “W’s”. The complete revised north half first round schedule for Daily Corinthian coverage area teams can be found on this page, in shaded box.
