GLEN — As most fans expected, host Alcorn Central met Belmont for the Alcorn Central Volleyball Tournament Championship Saturday with the Lady Cardinals exacting some revenge on the Lady Bears by sweeping them 2-0 in the title match.
Central had swept Belmont 2-0 Thursday in the BHS Trimatch.
A total of eight teams, with just two - Caledonia and Belmont - coming from outside the Daily Corinthian coverage area ascended upon the Central high school and middle school gyms for the day-long event.
Kossuth went 2-1 in pool play and had a 1-0 match lead on the host Lady Bears in the semifinal round before AC rallied to wins sets two and three to take the match 2-1 and advance to the title round.
The Lady ‘Cards made it to the championship match by winning their pool with a 3-0 record before sweeping McNairy Central in the semifinals.
Belmont ended the tournament with a 5-0 record while Alcorn Central was 4-1 while playing without standout senior Mia Griffin for the final few matches.
Other local teams, and their final tourney records were: Walnut, 2-3; Corinth, 0-3; Tishomingo County 0-3.
Belmont defeated Central 25-19, 25-20 to capture the tournament title.
