It’s time to play some Lighthouse hoops.

The 2021 Lighthouse Classic tips this morning at 9 a.m. when Kossuth meets Delta Academy out of Marks, Miss. The Raiders head coach is Craig Dailey who formerly was at Tishomingo County and Marshall Academy.

This is Delta’s first trip to the Classic while the Aggies sport a 3-3 record in the event.

Following that, game two will feature Alcorn Central against Shoals Christian out of Florence, Ala.

The Flames are also making their debut in the LHC while Central has a 4-3 mark in the tournament.

When that contest is over, the competition steps up a notch as Center Hill takes on the Sparkman Senators from Harvest, Ala. Both squads have appeared in the Lighthouse Classic before with the Mustangs – the 2019 5A State Champions – sporting a 1-1 record while Sparkman is unbeaten in Corinth at 1-0. Both teams feature next-level players such as 6-4 junior Will Hawkins of the Senators and 6-3 senior Deshun Dunn of the Mustangs.

Games four and five will be the semifinal contests in the annual Lighthouse Prep Challenge.

Tipping first will be two-time defending LHC Prep Challenge Champion Hamilton Heights from Chattanooga challenging Orangeville Prep from Ontario, Canada. These two squads met two years ago in the 2019 event with Hamilton Heights getting the best of Orangeville Prep. The rematch should be epic as both teams are stacked with D-1 talent, some of which could eventually find themselves playing in The League. The Hawks from Tenneessee feature 6-11 sophomore post/forward Somtochuwku Cyril while the Bears from Canada will counter with 6-10 senior post/forward Jeremy Foumena. Check out the program and it’s apparent Orangeville Prep is filled with tall guys.

“They will be the tallest team overall we’ve ever had in the Lighthouse Classic,” said Tournament Director Vince Overholt.

Game five, and the second LHS Prep Challenge semifinal, will pit Chicago Prep (Chi-Prep for short – it’s also on their jerseys) against Dream City Christian out of Glendale, Ariz.

The Chi-Prep Freeze features 6-10 senior post player Chin Okpukpara-Hanson while the Eagles will bring 6-10 senior North Carolina State commit Shawn Phillips as well as 6-5 senior Kentucky commit Shaedon Sharpe.

Once the Lighthouse Prep Challenge semi’s are complete, the action or talent level does not take a break as four-time defending MAIS 6A Champion MRA, from Jackson, Miss. will play CPA out of Nashville. The Mississippi-based Patriots will feature 6-6 junior forward Harrison Alexander while the Tennessee-based Lions counter with 6-1 senior guard Evan Shiflet.

Game seven will bring together Madison Prep out of Baton Rouge and Grissom out of Huntsville, Ala. The Louisiana Chargers will feature 6-9 senior forward – and Seton Hall commit – Percy Daniels while the Tigers will have 6-3 junior guard RJ Johnson as one of their primary players. Combined, these two squads boast a multitude of state championships.

Game eight sees the return of the Callaway Chargers as they face the Fayette-Ware Wildcats. Yes, Deashun Ruffin has moved on to the SEC but the Chargers have a solid 1-2 punch at the guard position in 5-11 senior Keiveon Hunt and 6-0 freshman Javarion Mallard. The orange and blue also feature a solid inside game featuring 6-8 senior Dyllion Redmond. The ‘Cats, out of Somerville, have been in the LHC before and feature 6-6 junior forward Damerien Yates.

Friday’s nightcap game will see host Corinth going against the Belgreen Bulldogs out of Russellville, Ala. This will be the first appearance for the ‘Dogs while the Warriors are 7-7 in the LHC.

Get that all-day come and go pass and enjoy a day full of post-Thanksgiving Day hoops action during Day One of the 2021 Lighthouse Classic.
