In the win over New Albany, the Lady Bears got a strong pitching performance from Mady Cornelius, who allowed an unearned run on two hits, walked two and struck out 11.
Cornelius also got the offense started in the top of the first when she lined a single to left. Maggie Crum followed her up with an RBI single for a 1-0 lead.
Cornelius got out of a few jams to keep the score at 1-0 late in the game. In the fourth, she stranded a two-out triple by getting a pop up to end the inning, and in the fifth, she halted another potential rally with a strikeout after the Lady Bulldogs loaded the bases with two outs.
Central got the bats back going in the top of the sixth to add to their lead. Autumn Johnston started the inning off with a base hit, and Annabeth Parrish advanced her over with a bunt.
Cornelius helped her own cause by driving in the run with an RBI triple, and Crum followed her up with another hit, an RBI double to go up 3-0. Glorianna Johnson reached on an error to bring in the final run of the game for the Lady Bears.
New Albany scored its only run on a one-out triple and then an error in the bottom of the sixth.
In the second game against Wheeler, Crum had another two hits, including a double. Emma Barnett also added a double.
Sydnee Norman allowed two earned runs on three hits, walking two and striking out two.
Alcorn Central’s run scored when Barnett came home on an error after her double in the second inning.
