BOONEVILLE – A big inning highlighted the Kossuth Lady Aggies’ division opener.
In a game moved to Northeast, the Lady Aggies scored all 12 of their runs in the second inning to cruise to a 12-2 Division 1-3A victory on Friday night and improve to 8-2 on the season.
Maddie Mask scattered five hits and three walks and struck out seven in five innings.
Kossuth sent 16 to the plate in the big second inning starting off the frame with an infield single by Macie Starling and a base hit by Annabelle Marlar. Starling came home on the throw.
Cailyn Johnson hit a triple to the wall in center field to make it 2-0, and Ella Jobe scored her quickly with an RBI single.
After walks to Caliann Mitchell and Emily Bradley, Hadley James singled up the middle to drive in a pair of runs, and an error made it 7-0. Starling added her second hit of the inning to score courtesy runner Alana Lewis, and Marlar and Johnson also got their second hits, pushing the lead to 9-0. A walk, an error and a passed ball led to the final three runs of the inning.
In the third, Starling hit a triple and Marlar drew a walk but the Lady Aggies were unable to add to their lead.
The Lady Bears scored both of their runs in the bottom of the third. Annabeth Parrish drew a walk and scored when Sydnee Norman reached on an error. Maggie Crum drove a double deep to center field but was left stranded.
Kossuth loaded the bases in the fourth on hits from Mitchell, Bradley and James, but a fly ball ended that threat. Parrish had the final hit for Alcorn Central in the bottom of the fifth.
Corinth 12, Shannon 0
The Lady Warriors posted the shutout in four innings behind a perfect game from Callie Pounders, who struck out seven. Kinley Pittman led the way with three hits, a two-run inside the park home run and a pair of triples, driving in three runs on the night. Lainey Briggs, Addyson Moore, McKinley Moore, Pounders and Lylah Cox all added two hits apiece. Maggie Parchman hit a double as Briggs and Pounders finished with a pair of RBIs each.
Booneville 4, Pine Grove 1
Olivia Garrett picked up the win in the circle.
Baseball Kossuth 10, Water Valley 0
Hank Eaton finished with 13 strikeouts in six innings, allowing just two hits and a walk. The Aggies ended the game with the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth on back-to-back doubles from Jack Johnson and Eli Hinton. Kossuth had ten hits, led by two each from Reid Coward, Ashton Knight and Hinton. Knight and Ayden Wilbanks had doubles, and Bryson Jackson, Knight, Rylan Henry and Hinton drove in a pair of runs each.
Biggersville 10, Baldwyn 0Luke Overstreet tossed a one-hitter, finishing with six strikeouts and three walks in five innings. Dylan Rowsey had three of Biggersville’s 10 hits, while Drew Rowsey went 2 for 3 with a double. Logan Ellsworth also went 2 for 3 in the win.
