The girls’ golf season finished out the year earlier this week, competing in the state championships.
Alcorn Central, Corinth and Kossuth all competed in the Class 3A/4A championship at The Dogwoods Golf Course in Grenada.
Corinth placed fifth, while Kossuth was 11th and Alcorn Central was 12th. New Albany was the overall champion.
Corinth’s team members were Camden Lewis, Ruth Sawyer Albright, Ella Davis and Madeline Brooks, comprised of three sophomores and a freshman.
The Lady Warriors’ team was in fourth place overall after the first day with Lewis being seventh individually.
Booneville edged them out by four strokes to take fourth place on the second day, dropping Corinth to fifth.
Lewis kept her seventh place finish out of 52 golfers, shooting an 89 on Day 1 and an 84 on Day 2. Albright placed 21st, shooting 102 on the first day and 107 on the second day.
“All four girls competed really hard,” Corinth golf coach Rob Scarbrough said. “This course is super hilly and hard to just walk, much less carry their clubs around and play.”
Kossuth had four girls on their team competing at state as well with Emily Mann, Lynley Woodruff, Madison Mills and Anna Greenlee.
Mann led the way with a 19th place finish, shooting 206 for the two day total. Woodruff placed 25th behind her.
For Alcorn Central, Sydney Howie ended up as the top girls’ finisher. Their team also consisted of Briley Waldrop, Stella Hollis, Maleah Wilbanks and Darbie Oaks.
