Eleven local players took the field on Wednesday representing their schools on the gridiron for the final time in the Northeast Mississippi Football Coaches All-Star game.
The event was held at Northeast Mississippi Community College.
The all-star game pits the North against the South as the South came away with the 8-5 win in the low-scoring affair.
Corinth had five representatives in the game on the North side in Broderick Alexander, Jay Cummings, Sam Dilworth, Jaylon Stackins and Kwaveon Tucker. Kossuth was represented by Evan Patton.
Booneville had three on the North squad with Avery Kelly, Trent Rocker and Reagan Spencer. Thrasher’s Jude White and Walnut’s Cayden Armstrong were also on the North team.
Corinth coach Justin Dye was one of the coaches for the North team.
The North got on the board first with a safety with 8:22 left in the first quarter, a score that held up past halftime.
New Albany’s Witt Robinson hit a 31-yard field goal to make it 5-0 in favor of the North, but the South took the win by scoring all their points on one possession. Nettleton’s Jay Hawkins punched in the touchdown to go up 6-5 with 4:53 left in the game, and Amory’s Jatarian Ware tacked on the two-point conversion.

Mattox was honored both as an area retiree and also as part of the Hall of Fame class. Former Corinth coaches Andy Greening and Johnny Plummer were also part of the Hall of Fame class in addition to Ricky Woods, Mike Scott and Rudy Pope, who was honored posthumously.
The NEMFCA also named a coaching staff of the year for each classification, and Kossuth coach Brian Kelly and his Aggies’ coaching staff received the award for Class 3A.
Other coaching staffs honored were Tupelo (6A), West Point (5A), Houston (4A), Eupora (2A) and Hamilton (1A).
