Officials are investigating the cause of a Saturday morning fire that claimed the life of a woman.
Sheriff Ben Caldwell said firefighters discovered a deceased person who was identified as Martha Loveless, 54.
The fire at 203 County Road 750 (Smithbridge Road) west of Corinth was reported about 8:21 a.m. Loveless is the daughter of the resident, and she was apparently staying there while her mother is hospitalized. The structure was a small wood-frame house.
“At this time, the cause of the fire does not appear to be arson, but it is still under investigation,” said Caldwell.
The sheriff’s fire investigator and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are looking into the fire.
The Union Center-Theo and Wenasoga Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the blaze.
