The Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal head-on collision that happened during the morning drive to work and school on Tuesday.

Coroner Jay Jones identified the deceased as Jennifer Denise Ross, 34, of Corinth.

Sheriff Ben Caldwell said it happened about 7:45 a.m. on County Road 604 at the intersection with Road 614 as Ross was driving north in a Nissan Altima. The car collided with a southbound Ford F-150 driven by Braden Houston, 17, of Dumas.

Ross was pronounced dead at the scene. Houston was checked out by EMS at the scene and was not taken to the hospital.

Caldwell said the cause of the crash is under investigation.

Jones said Ross had dropped off her children at school in Kossuth and was headed to work. Houston was also on his way to work, Caldwell said.

The Kossuth Volunteer Fire Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol assisted in the wreck response.
