A Corinth man faces multiple felony charges after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs.
Ross Spears of East Sixth Street was arrested by the Corinth Police Department on Monday and charged with possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), possession of a controlled substance with intent (methamphetamine) with firearm enhancement, possession of a controlled substance with intent (marijuana) with firearm enhancement, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, disorderly conduct and tampering with physical evidence.
At approximately 10 a.m. Monday, an officer made a traffic stop on a truck at the Marathon Gas station on East Shiloh Road for not using a turn signal. The two occupants of the truck jumped out, and the passenger, later identified as Ross Spears, continued to walk into the store after being told to stop.
An officer apprehended Spears inside the store, and video surveillance showed Spears attempted to conceal a clear plastic bag containing a white powder-like substance in a drink box, according to the arrest report. A search of the vehicle uncovered a sealed bag of mushrooms.
Officers executed a search warrant at the residence of Spears at 1414 East Sixth Street at about 11:40 a.m. and found a bag of crystal-like substance, a green leafy substance, five unidentified pills, a brown powder-like substance, several individual bags, digital scales, one Adderall pill, two clear glass pipes with residue and a Rock Armory 1911 handgun.
The residence is located within 1,500 feet of a church.
Amanda Hicks, a subject with an active county warrant and Mississippi Department of Corrections warrant, was at the residence and was taken into custody.
The driver of the truck was charged with disorderly conduct.
Bond was pending for Spears.
