It’s getting close to budget time, and requests for the coming fiscal year are beginning to roll in to the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors.

During this past week’s meeting, the board received requests from the Northeast Regional Library, the Alcorn County Health Department and the American Red Cross.

The regional library, which has faced steep budget cuts in recent years, is requesting a 10 percent increase to $181,913. The Tupelo-based chapter of the American Red Cross, which was budgeted at $6,000 in the current budget, said it distributed $13,945 in direct disaster assistance to Alcorn County residents during the past year.

In other business:

n The board approved use of the courthouse grounds for a Christian block party on Sept. 5, 6 to 8 p.m., by 3C Ministries.

n Supervisors authorized the use of four voting machines by Alcorn County Electric Power Association on Aug. 11.

n The June tax settlement sent $161,537.03 to the general fund; $62,928.24 to roads; and $11,126.59 to bridge and culvert. Delinquent taxes collected during the month totaled $27,642.31.

n Regional correctional facility reimbursements due for the month totaled $333,427.44.
