A Kossuth native has been named to a state committee focused on ensuring access to vital communications for those with hearing or speech impairments.
Dr. Tara Spencer was appointed this week to the Advisory Committee on Telecommunication Services for Hearing or Speech Impaired by Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann.
“Dr. Spencer’s knowledge and expertise will greatly benefit the Committee as well as the hearing and speech impaired community,” Hosemann said.
The committee serves as advisors to the legislature with 16 members from various backgrounds working to ensure that essential communication is readily available for those that require specialized equipment due to hearing or speech impairments.
A native of Kossuth, Spencer has worked as an audiologist at Corinth Ear, Nose and Throat for the past 11 years. She holds an undergraduate degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences, as well as a graduate degree in Audiology from the University of Southern Mississippi and she, completed her Clinical Fellowship Year at Premier Medical Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat, in Mobile, Ala.
She previously worked with veterans at the Tuscaloosa Veterans Medical Center before returning home to Alcorn County.
The doctor holds a Clinical Certification of Competency from the American Speech and Hearing Association, is a member of the Mississippi Speech and Hearing Association, and is licensed by the Mississippi State Board of Health.
She and her family are active members of Kossuth Baptist Church where she works with the youth group.
