It’s another month in the black for Corinth sales tax, but just barely.
The sales tax diversion hitting the city coffers at mid-January totaled $634,346.59, an increase of less than $200 from the same month a year earlier. Small as the increase is, it nevertheless makes a seventh consecutive month of growth for the city.
The trend statewide for the latest month reported by the Mississippi Department of Revenue was more positive, with collections as a whole rising 4.3 percent for the month.
The funds returned to cities at mid-January reflect business sales activity that occurred during November.
The city’s fiscal year cumulative total goes to $2.522 million, rising 5.1 percent, or about $121,000, from the prior year.
The 2 percent tourism tax collected in the city was more solidly in the black. The tax generated $130,531, rising 4.6 percent, or about $5,800, from a year earlier. For the fiscal year to date, the tax has gained 8.7 percent, or about $42,600, over the prior year.
Special taxes across the state collectively gained 11.2 percent during the latest reported month, which also reflects sales activity from November.
