Following an emergency landing on an Iuka highway on Saturday, this vintage US Marines trainer aircraft was carried to a nearby parking lot.

IUKA — A small private plane made an emergency landing on a highway Saturday afternoon in Tishomingo County.

No injuries were reported when the engine failed and the pilots of the Flordia-based aircraft had to make an emergency landing on Highway 25 near North Mississippi Medical Center – Iuka.

Two people were on board the plane as they returned home to Florida from a trip to Missouri.

According to reports, the pilots attempted to land on the four-lane highway. Witnesses said the plane’s landing gear came close to hitting several vehicles on the roadway. Once the plane landed, it skidded to a stop and into the ditch on the southbound side.

Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene along with local police, fire, and emergency officials.

The plane – a vintage US Marines trainer – was loaded onto a wrecker and carried to the parking lot of Northpoint Bingo on Battleground Drive near Jack’s.

Surrounded by caution tape and orange construction cones, the aircraft created a buzz on social media as Tishomingo County residents posted photos and videos. The plane showed little to no damage.
