A Tishomingo County woman charged with capital murder allegedly traveled from Corinth to Baldwyn to commit the crime.
Shawnie Vel Young, 47, of Belmont, is accused of killing 63-year-old Pamela Jean Britt on Tuesday in the garage of Britt's Baldwyn home. She is being held without bond in the Lee County Jail.
Investigators said during a court hearing, it appears Young left a Corinth residence around 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning and parked a borrowed car more than a mile away from Britt's home before walking to the home on foot with the intention of killing the victim. Young also took approximately $500 from the victim's purse during the crime.
Britt was found dead in the garage of her home, after she did not return to work from her lunch break and her boss went to check on her.
A motive for the killing has not officially been determined, but Baldwyn Police Chief Troy Agnew said the crime appears to have been sparked by a dispute over a man.
The case will be presented to the next Lee County grand jury.
