The body of a Booneville woman reported missing last week has been found in Blackland.
The remains of 42-year-old Tiffany D. Copeland were found Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. in a wooded area near County Road 7400 in the Blackland Community west of Booneville.
Sheriff Randy Tolar said Copeland’s body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy and investigators are awaiting preliminary autopsy results before releasing a cause of death.
Booneville Police Chief Michael Ramey said Copeland was reported missing last Friday. She was last seen on Tuesday, February 2 around 5 p.m.
The police department and sheriff’s department searched through the weekend, along with volunteers from the community. Ramey said the rescue squad assisted with dogs and the sheriff’s department’s drone was also used.
Tolar said the body was found Monday afternoon by two people out searching in the area.
The sheriff said the sheriff’s department is working closely with the police department as well as the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to investigate the case and more information will be released as soon as possible.
Ramey also praised the cooperation from the sheriff’s department and said his investigators will be working hand in hand with the county to pursue a resolution to the case.
“The city will absolutely assist in any way we can,” said the police chief.
