One of three people charged in the 2018 murder of a Corinth businessman entered a guilty plea on Wednesday.
Darius Jordan Deen, 23, pleaded guilty to first degree murder in Alcorn County Circuit Court and received a life sentence. He also pleaded guilty to armed robbery and received a concurrent 35-year sentence to be served day-for-day.
He was accused in the shooting death and robbery of 57-year-old George Earl Harris, the owner of a lawn service and home repair business called Your Way.
The police investigation found that Deen and accomplices took a large amount of cash from the Liddon Lake Road home of Harris, as well as taking the victim’s wallet and cell phone and a piece of recording equipment for video surveillance of the property.
Harris died from a gunshot wound to the back of the head, according to the autopsy. The murder was discovered after Harris’ employees gathered at the shop behind the home waiting to begin the work day and Harris did not report to work as normal.
Deen was later arrested at a Booneville hotel room.
