A Corinth man was killed in a workplace accident on Thursday.

Alcorn County Coroner Jay Jones confirmed the death of 24-year-old Nickolas "Nick" Crump of Corinth. Jones said Crump died while working on a piece of machinery at Columbia Gulf Transmission Co.

While an explosion was reported as the cause of death earlier in the day, it was confirmed that a machinery malfunction ended in the fatality.

Columbia Gas Transmission is a natural gas pipeline that gathers gas in the Gulf of Mexico and transports it across the country.
