An Alcorn County man has been convicted of manslaughter in the death 2017 of a Kossuth resident.

Chadwick John Grimes will be sentenced May 10 in Alcorn County Circuit Court after an Alcorn County jury returned a guilty verdict on the charge of manslaughter late Thursday evening.

District Attorney John Weddle said the jury deliberated eight and a half hours before reaching their decision following the trial which began on Monday.

Grimes is was convicted in connection with the death of Gregory Lawrence Seago, 33, from injuries received in a fight at the Aggie Mart in Kossuth on April 29, 2017.

Seago was hospitalized at Regional One Health in Memphis and died May 19, 2017.

Sheriff Ben Caldwell said at the time Seago suffered severe head injuries in the altercation.
