Jurors returned a guilty verdict Wednesday in a manslaughter case stemming from a 2015 fatal stabbing.

Sentencing will be held later for Jeremy Jerome Walker, 35. The guilty verdict came at the conclusion of a three-day trial in Alcorn County Circuit Court during the first week of a new court term.

The victim in the case was Michael Kyle Decker, who was 21 years old.

An altercation occurred between the two men on May 19, 2015, at the Wilson Street Apartments, where responding officers found Decker with a wound to the upper left side of the abdomen. The knife believed to be used in the assault was found in an overgrown lot on the east side of the apartment complex, and officers stopped the suspect’s vehicle near South Parkway and Proper Street. The suspect was wearing bloodstained clothes, according to police reports at the time.

Decker died four days later.
