An old-fashioned Christmas is coming to the historic Jacinto Courthouse.

The square surrounding the landmark building will soon be ablaze with lights as the Jacinto Foundation hosts Christmas in Jacinto throughout the holiday season.

The fun kicks off Saturday, November 27 with a special event marking the lighting of Jacinto Square. The square will officially be lit at 6 p.m. and from 6 p.m. visitors can enjoy horse and carriage rides for $5 per person.

Beginning on November 27 and continuing each Friday and Saturday through December 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. the general store will be open offering hot chocolate, hot cider and hot coffee and a different musical group will be on hand singing Christmas music.

Foundation Executive Director Charlette Foster said she and the board are excited to bring another special event to the courthouse.

“I want it to be an old-fashioned Christmas. I want to keep it nostalgic and make it something for the family,” she said.

A special morning of children’s activities is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on December 11 as they host Breakfast with Santa including a pancake breakfast and photo with Santa for $10 each and pony rides, train rides and a petting zoo for a separate $10 ticket.

The lights at the courthouse will be on every evening beginning on November 27 and Foster said any night will be a great night to come out and experience the beauty.

“It’s such a special place. People don’t always know what a gem we have right here in Alcorn County,” she said.
