Art and nature will come to life this Saturday in a full day of activities at the historic Jacinto Courthouse.
The fun begins at 10 a.m. and continues throughout the day with an art class, nature, and animal presentations, special walking tours, and much more.
“We wanted to do something with arts and crafts and celebrate the approach of warmer weather with a day of fun art and nature activities,” said Jacinto Foundation Executive Director Charlette Foster.
At 10 a.m. Deanna Washington Gregory will host a Bob Ross art class for kids in the Jacinto Schoolhouse. Seating is limited for the class and the cost is $25 per person if they already have a Bob Ross art kit or $50 if they need a kit. For info and to register email deannascanvas@gmail.com
All other activities throughout the day are free of charge other than any food purchases, said Foster.
Throughout the day Evan Norvell and Anthony Duckworth will be offering special tours of the Jacinto grounds. Norvell will share the historic site’s unique history as he leads tours dressed in period clothing. Duckworth’s tours will take guests through the park and share about the natural wonders to be found at the site.
Debora Waz of the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science will share a program on Mississippi’s reptiles in the pavilion at noon and will have several live animals for kids and adults to meet, including an alligator.
At 1:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Luke and Christy Milbourne of the Central Mississippi Turtle Rescue will offer a presentation on turtles of Mississippi in the schoolhouse.
Foster said they also want to invite all area artists to bring their supplies and create art on the grounds during the event.
“We’re excited to see artists across the area come meet each other and be inspired by our grounds. This is a totally relaxed opportunity and we hope to see artists of all skill levels,” she said.
A food truck will be on site all day offering tasty treats and the general store will also be open for refreshments.
Foster said the event is just another way the foundation is encouraging people to come out and explore the unique history and natural beauty of Jacinto. She said the courthouse and grounds belong to the people and they want everyone to feel welcome and see all they have to offer.
“We just want to bring awareness to Jacinto and encourage people to come out, visit and use Jacinto. It belongs to everyone,” she said.
