The investigation of a stabbing and a shooting death filled in one piece of the puzzle Thursday with positive identification of the deceased.

That identification was made Thursday afternoon for the man identified as John Elmer Reeves, 43. Corinth Police Department Capt. Dell Green said his last licensed address was in Murray, Kentucky, and Reeves did not currently have a permanent address.

The other individual involved in the altercation, Justin Lee Knight, 33, of 208 East Second Street, continued to be hospitalized on Thursday at Magnolia Regional Health Center. His account of what transpired will be critical to the investigation, and Green said detectives hoped to be able to speak with him today. Knight is expected to recover from his wounds.

The situation was reported by a neighbor at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers responding to the East Second Street residence found Knight with stab wounds and Reeves deceased of gunshot wounds.

Green said Knight went across the street after the altercation to the neighbor’s residence and the neighbor called 911.
