A Prentiss County inmate was recaptured Thursday afternoon after going on the run for a second time after being mistakenly released from the county jail on Tuesday.

Shaun Franklin Reed, 34, of Booneville was being sought by the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Randy Tolar issued a short statement late Thursday afternoon saying he was now back in custody. No further details were provided at press time.

Reed was incorrectly released from the jail after being given credit for time served in Justice Court earlier in the day.

“When he was returned to the jail from court he was mistakenly released,” said Tolar. “Reed had several felony charges pending.”

Reed was recaptured in November at a Baldwyn residence. after escaping from the jail through an unsecured door in the booking area.

He was originally arrested on November 10 for outstanding warrants in Alcorn County and felony drug charges in Prentiss County. He was charged with felony escape in November after his rearrest.

Reed has ties to Prentiss and Alcorn counties, said Tolar.
