Parkway fire

The Corinth Fire Department responded to the house fire on South Parkway Street Sunday afternoon.

A walk in the park has come with the scent of smoke for the last few days.

A dilapidated house across the street went up in flames Sunday afternoon. Smoke continued rising from the ashes Tuesday morning on South Parkway Street at the corner of Tate Street.

Fire Chief Todd Welch said the brick house was ablaze when firemen arrived. Because of the declining condition of the vacant structure, safety of the firefighters was a consideration. Firemen focused on containing the blaze from the outside and keeping it from threatening anything else in the area, Welch said.

It is believed the house had been vacant for several years, and the property had changed ownership in recent months.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
