The clock is ticking for those planning to seek holiday help from the Lighthouse Foundation Toy Store.

This week brings the final days to register for assistance from the program which helps provide toys to struggling families each year in Alcorn County.

Registration sessions are set for this Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon at the foundation building on South Johns Street. An evening registration session will be held on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Those registering must bring a Social Security card and birth certificate for each child, along with proof of residency in Alcorn County such as a power bill, water bill or other document showing their physical address in the county.

Foundation Executive Director Gary Caveness said they’ve seen a much higher number of registrations than normal so far and he wants to encourage anyone who needs help to be sure to register. The budget for the program is set based on the number of children signed up and they aren’t able to help anyone who hasn’t registered by the deadline.

Donations are needed to help the foundation meet the need. Caveness said the community has always supported the program in a big way and they have faith it will happen again.

“We’re so thankful for a community that comes together,” he said.

Donations are being accepted now and can be made in person at the foundation or by mail to P.O. Box 2121, Corinth, MS 38835.

Volunteers will also be needed throughout the week of the giveaway, but no large volunteer training sessions will be held this year due to the need to limit large gatherings. Anyone interested in volunteering should call the foundation at 662-286-0091.
