Corinth’s property cleanup campaign is targeting several residential properties where “shade tree mechanic” work is resulting in an accumulation of vehicles.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted to adjudicate one of those properties last week at 1710 Droke Road after hearing from the property owner, Terry Nance, during a public hearing on cleanup of the property.
“What we are trying to do in South Corinth is eliminate the presence of shade tree mechanics,” said Code Enforcement Officer Kim Ratliff. “It’s nothing against Mr. Nance. He has done great work helping people in the community, but we have got to work towards respecting people’s property values on the other side of the shade tree mechanics.”
The city will have a wrecker service tow the vehicles that do not belong on the property, and the vehicle owners will have a set amount of time to claim the vehicle.
Ratliff said the Droke Road property, with vehicles in different stages of repair, has been a source of complaints from the neighborhood for years.
Nance told the board his focus will remain spending time with his ailing mother.
Ratliff said there are several properties of concern in the area.
“There is another on Meigg Street right now that just has too many cars,” he said. “When it breeds and turns into six or eight cars, it takes a different tone and it ends up looking bad on the community.”
The board also voted to adjudicate a property at 1215 Meigg Street. The board also voted to adjudicate and take the necessary cleanup action in the ongoing Cruise Street situation at 1421 and 1431 Cruise Street.
The board dismissed adjudication proceedings for 203 Highway 72 East, where Corinth Color Center was extensively damaged during a brief tornado on April 13 last year. The building had become a safety concern.
The building has been demolished and the business plans to rebuild there, Ratliff said.
