Booneville's Asya Branch has done it again.
A little over a year after being crowned Miss Mississippi America, the Booneville resident has been selected as Miss Mississippi USA.
Branch, a 2016 graduate of Booneville of Booneville High School and a graduate of the University of Mississippi, became the first African-American winner of the Miss Mississippi USA pageant in the program's 67-year-history when she was crowned the winner last Saturday night at the pageant in Tunica.
She will go on to represent the Magnolia State in the Miss USA pageant in the spring and the winner of Miss USA will compete in the Miss Universe Pageant.
Branch, the daughter of Anthony and Kristal Branch, has credited her father as the most influential person in her life and has used her pageant career to share a message of hope for other children of incarcerated parents. Her father is in prison and she has worked to reach out to children in similar situations and help be a voice to encourage them to rise above their circumstances.
