Qualifying for county offices has almost come to a standstill after the initial rush as the calendar turned to 2023.
The only new addition to the list in the last few days is Bob Moore, the incumbent county attorney who has served since 2011. He will run as an independent as he seeks reelection.
Moore was the last of the incumbents seeking reelection to join the list.
Circuit Clerk Crystal Starling is reminding all potential candidates of this year’s narrowed window for qualifying – just a one-month period ending at the close of business on Feb. 1.
Potential candidates should also remember this year’s new requirement that documentation showing proof of residency of two years prior to the general election date of Nov. 7, 2023, is required. Pay stubs, utility bills and homestead forms are examples of acceptable documentation.
The primary election date is Aug. 8 with runoffs on Aug. 29, if needed.
