A New Year’s Eve burglary spree has landed a Booneville man in jail on 18 felony charges. Three juveniles are also charged in the case.
Booneville Police Chief Michael Ramey said there were several break-ins in the early morning hours of Saturday morning, December 31 in the northeast area of the city limits. Several homes were broken into as well as several vehicles. Ramey said there were also several attempted break-ins during the same time period.
George Leacleve May, 20, of Booneville was arrested Tuesday around 11:30 a.m. at a residence on Brewer Street.
May is charged with 18 felony counts including two counts of attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling, one count of attempted burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling, one count of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, two counts of attempted burglary of an automobile, six counts of burglary of an automobile, one count of attempted burglary of a residential outbuilding (a shop), one count of burglary of a residential outbuilding (a shop) and three counts of instructing a minor to commit a felony. He is also charged with three misdemeanor offenses – shoplifting, petit larceny and trespassing.
Bond was set at $250,000 by City Judge Greg Meyer.
Three juveniles were also arrested and charged with multiple counts. They were being held Tuesday at the Alcorn County Juvenile Detention Center and their cases will be handled through Prentiss County Youth Court, said Ramey.
The police chief expressed his appreciation to all those who helped solve the case.
“We want to especially thank the citizens of Booneville for their assistance in bringing this investigation to a swift resolution,” he said.
