Booneville police have arrested a Booneville man for the theft of a vehicle and burglary of a building in Dogwood Estates.

Booneville Police Chief Michael Ramey said the department was notified on December 16 of the theft of a 2004 GMC truck from a residence in Dogwood Estates. A nearby building was also broken into and numerous tools including a weedeater, chainsaws, and other tools. The truck and other items have been recovered.

David Jacob Oconnor, 30, of Booneville has been charged with felony taking of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and burglary and larceny of a commercial building. Bond was set at $75,000.

The police chief said a Blackland resident spotted Oconnor driving the truck the following day and the police department, along with the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department responded and found the truck where it had apparently run out of gas. The suspect had fled and officers from both departments spent several hours searching the area for him.

The following morning the sheriff’s department received a report of the suspect seen walking along County Road 7200 between Blackland and Osbourne Creek. Deputies responded and took him into custody.

Ramey said Oconnor has been cooperating with authorities and helped them recover the stolen property.

The police chief said he’s grateful to the sheriff’s department and the citizens of the Blackland area for helping bring the suspect to justice.
