One new candidate has qualified for municipal elections in the City of Booneville with just over a week remaining in the qualifying period.
Allan Prentiss added his name to the list of qualifiers for Alderman Ward 4 as a Republican since the last edition of the newspaper.
Qualifying continues through 5 p.m. Friday, February 5.
Candidates who had filed qualifying papers with the city clerk’s office as of 5 p.m. Tuesday are:
Mayor: Chris Lindley (Republican) (incumbent)
Alderman Ward 1: Tara Lauderdale (Republican), Gary Walker (Republican), Lauren Whitson (Republican)
Alderman Ward 2: Jeff Williams (Democrat)
Alderman Ward 3: Bill Stevenson (Republican)
Alderman Ward 4: Michael Starkey (Republican), Allan Prentiss (Republican)
Alderman-at-Large: Harold Eaton (Republican), Lavaile Shields (Republican), Derrick Blythe (Independent)
Four of Booneville’s five current aldermen have announced they will not be seeking reelection. Ward 1 Alderman Jason Michael, Ward 3 Alderman Mark McCoy, Ward 4 Alderman William Scott and Alderman-at-Large Lisa Stevens have all said they are not planning to run again for the seats they currently hold. Ward 2 Alderman Jeff Williams and Mayor Chris Lindley are seeking reelection.
The first party primary election is scheduled for April 6, with a runoff (if necessary) set for April 27. The general election is June 8. New terms begin July 1.
