Shelby Rhynes

GUNTOWN — Shelby Rhynes, 83, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the New Albany Health & Rehab. She was a former librarian for Baldwyn Public Library and a home health worker for NMMC. Shelby enjoyed reading, yard sales, shopping, flea markets, working in her garden but she especially loved taking care of her grandchildren. She was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at Waters Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 2:30 p.m., with Bro. Chad Higgins officiating. Burial was in Camp Creek Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughter, Marie White (Ray) of Guntown; sons, Mike Lemons (Virginia) of Belden, Danny Rhynes of Belden, Stephen Rhynes of Bruce and Kenneth Rhynes (Ruby) of Guntown; daughter-in-law, Janet Rhynes of Baldwyn; brother, Oscar Tyrus Luther (Kim) of Hickory Flat; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tyrus Edward and Addie Kate Huckaby Luther; sister, Velma Dale Hunter; son, David Craig Rhynes and a daughter, Jennifer Michelle Roberts.

Pallbearers were David Craig Rhynes Jr., Shawn Rhynes, Lucas Young, Jake Young, Logan White and Kyle White.

Honorary pallbearers were Wyatte Owens and Tracy Rhynes.

Doug Mooney

Douglas Ray Mooney, 78, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at his home. He was born December 18, 1942, to Earnest and Dorothy Mooney. He worked in furniture manufacturing. He was a member of Booneville Church of God. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching baseball and westerns and country music.

A celebration of life service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 27, 2021, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. James Wells and Bro. Keith Skelton officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Mooney; one son, Curtis (Marcella) Mooney; one daughter, Pam (Matt) Gaw; five grandchildren, Hunter, Alli (Blake), Matt, Aaron (Ashley) and Ethan; and two great-grandchildren, EzraKate and Emery.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers were Smith Burcham, Gary Mooney, James Word, Bradley Robinson, William Robinson and Shane Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Gerald Mooney, Jimmy Mooney, Dwayne Robinson, Darvin Robinson, Freddie Ross, Jerry Ross, Onion Johnson and Jerry Edge.

Thena Louise Wright

Thena Louise Wright, 71, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born June 26, 1950, to Russell and Mattie Brooks. She graduated from Jumpertown High School. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for several years. She worked for Brown Shoe Company and Wright Refrigeration. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, spending time with her friends and prayer group, and watching her grandchildren’s sports.

A celebration of life service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 28, 2021, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Jason Pilcher and Bro. Josh Sparks officiating. Burial was in New Lebanon Cemetery.

She is survived by one daughter, Valerie (Jason) Pilcher; two sisters, Barbara (Mike) Duboise and Regayda (Donnie) Johnson; three grandchildren, Mattie, Aaron and Rebekah; mother-in-law, Lowenstine Graves; and sister-in-law, Betty Green.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Wright; her parents; two brothers, Charles Ray Brooks and James Roy Brooks; and one sister, Jill Yates.

Pallbearers are Sam Michaels, Carson Newell, Scott Johnson, Derick Johnson, Gary Johnson, Robert Buran, Alex Wesson, and Dallas Cleveland.

Brian Keith Murrah

Brian Keith Murrah, 63, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Keith is survived by his wife, Sherrie D. Murrah; his son, Harley Drue Murrah; his daughter, Shay McKenzie Murrah; his grandchildren, Allysa L. Murrah and Colton D. Murrah; his sister, Lynn Murrah; his brother, Joe Murrah and a very large group of loving family and friends.

Keith is riding ahead of us now and waiting for us to see him again. Mother’s “Little Happy” is finally home.

Jimmie Ray Johnson

Jimmie Ray Johnson, 82, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, sports with his family and his miniature horses. He was a member of Little Brown Baptist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 30, 2021, in the Booneville Chapel of Kesler Funeral Home with Bro. Brandon Palmer officiating. Burial was in the Little Brown Cemetery

Jimmie is survived by his son, John Meinardi (Jan) of Corinth; his daughter, Cheryl Shannon (Michael) of Virginia; his sisters, Frances Brasfield-Tigrett of Pisgah and Lethal Dotson of Oklahoma; his granddaughters, Jessica Garland (Darren) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Kelsey Meinardi of Corinth; his grandson, Aaron Meinardi of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; his great-grandsons, Airmen First Class, Logan Garland of Langley, Va., and Landen Garland of Stuart, Fla., and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Horne Meinardi Johnson; his parents, MC and Vera Murphy Johnson and his brothers, Quitman and Rodger D. Johnson.

Pallbearers were Timmy Knight, Scotty Knight, Aaron Meinardi, Rodney Palmer, Jimmy Humpal and Joe Palmer.

Betty L. Hurst

Betty L. Hurst, 75, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021, at her home in Corinth. She was a member of Meeks Street Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, playing bingo, collecting AVON, going to the Senior Citizens Center and spending time with her family and church family. She was a very hard-working woman.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, December 3, 2021 at Meeks Street Church of Christ with Brian Meade officiating. Burial was in the Jacinto Community Cemetery.

Betty is survived by her son, Robert Hurst, Jr. (Michelle) of Corinth; her daughters, Melissa Felks (Joe) of Burnsville and Lynn Roach (Tracy) of Corinth; her sisters, Doris and Judy; her grandchildren, Cody Felks (Star), Casey Roach (Kalee), Megan Roach, Madisyn Roach, Ashley Langston and Dakota Carra and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 plus years, Robert Hurst, Sr.; her parents, Cecil and Birdie Odom; her son, Donald John Carra; her infant son, Matthew Carra; her brother, Donald Odom; her granddaughter, Breanna Bowden and her grandparents, Loren and Melissa Harris.

Pallbearers were Ed Felks, Keith Hughes, Jason Roach, Tim Roach, Cody Felks, Casey Roach, Jason Pool and Joseph Felks.

Lawrence C. ‘Junior’ Ticer

Lawrence C. “Junior” Ticer, 66, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at his home in the Cairo Community. He was a veteran of the US Army. He enjoyed woodworking, building guitars, listening to the radio, Civil War memorabilia, playing with his puppies, Toby, Molly and Lacy and he thoroughly loved spending time with his family, especially his girls and grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 2, 2021, at New Lebanon Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Elliott and Bro. Stanley Shook officiating. Burial was in the New Lebanon Cemetery.

Junior is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruth Ticer of Cairo; his daughters, Bobbie Roberts (Phillip) of Baldwyn and Elizabeth Willis (Allen) of Burnsville; his sister, Patsy Beene (Larry) of Texas; his grandchildren, Austin Roberts, Zach Roberts (Mya), Wyatt Roberts, Matthew Willis, Madison Willis and Mason Willis; his great-grandson, Bohen Roberts and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Florine Ticer and his daughter, Tracy Lynn Ticer.

Pallbearers were Jim Lowery, Tommy McDougal, Mark Shook, Calvin Knight, JJ Pannell and Richard Shook.

Honorary pallbearers were Tony and Rony Moore.

Jeffery O’Neil Roberts

Jeffery O’Neil Roberts, 56, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He enjoyed racing, riding four-wheelers, riding horses and spending time with his family and friends.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Lebanon Cemetery with his oldest brother, Bro. Terry Roberts officiating.

Neil is survived by his fiance, Renita Bullock of Baldwyn; his son, Tucker Roberts of Baldwyn; his father, Bobby Roberts of Baldwyn; his brothers, Terry Roberts (Renee) of Blackland and Paul Anthony “Country” Roberts of Baldwyn and his sisters, Greta Austin (Ray) of Baldwyn, Carla Durham of Tupelo and Robin Skelley (Nate) of Baldwyn.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Roberts; his brother, Eugene Roberts; his sister, Teresa Pannell and his brother-in-law, Joey Pannell.

Pallbearers were John Harper, Jonathan Roberts, Ryan Skelley, Nathan Skelley, Ray Austin, Rick Durham, Warren McMillan and Nathan Pannell.
