A Booneville man has been charged with attempted murder after an altercation between two individuals led to a shooting Sunday.

Police Chief Michael Ramey reports Vincent Lashawn Gillespie of Booneville has been charged with one count of attempted murder.

Gillespie is accused of shooting the victim in the arm during an altercation at a residence at 1409 East Church Street around 5 p.m. Sunday. The victim was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Booneville where he was treated and has since been released.

Gillespie was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Homer Road Apartments.

Ramey said it appears the two individuals had an argument and during the dispute Gillespie pulled a firearm and shot the victim.

The police chief said investigators are working with the district attorney’s office to have Gillespie held without bond since he was out on bond on another felony indictment at the time of the shooting.
