Booneville’s downtown history will soon be cast in bronze.

The Mississippi Hills Heritage Area Alliance has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Booneville Main Street Association and the Booneville Historic Preservation Commission for the installation of cast bronze plaques on all historic buildings in the downtown historic district.

The funds will also provide for the creation of a downtown walking tour brochure featuring the history of each building.

“We will take you back in time circa 1900s as you walk the downtown streets and learn the historic facts behind the downtown properties,” said Main Street Association Director Lori Tucker.

She expressed appreciation to the heritage area alliance for support of the project and to Diane Garvin and the historic preservation commission for their work in helping secure the funding.

Tucker said they are aiming to have the plaques in place and the project complete by the fall.
