Prentiss County may soon be able to boast a new landmark.

Building the Cross of Prentiss County founder made a Facebook post on August 13, 2020 in hopes others might be interested in having a cross, much like the one in Batesville, here in Prentiss County.

Building the Cross of Prentiss County can boast of raising the funds privately. Their efforts have raised just over $100,000 in three short months to fund the $200,000 project. As of December 31, 2020, the total was $100,269.

Deryl Saylors, founder and board member said, “In spite of the pandemic, we’ve done really good.”

The cross project is privately funded by donations. People from other states and other counties. “We’re getting a lot of calls, businesses are stepping up” the founder said.

The land is currently being surveyed. The property for “Building the CROSS in Prentiss County” was donated by Bill Spain and Marie Spain. The property is located at the intersection of Hwy 45 and County Road 7000 (Blackland Crossing). The property must be surveyed and soil samples taken in order to call the contractor. The labor and construction of the cross will be donated by Mike Rozier. Rozier has constructed five crosses across the state of Mississippi.

Saylors said, “We’ve got a lot of support. I feel like it’s gonna happen.”

The visionary would like to encourage others to make a donation, “We need folks to step up and help us and make the second half of it happen. We feel like it’s going good and we just need to finish it up.”
