The first snow of 2021 brought a day off for area students, but few problems for travelers.
Prentiss County School District and Booneville School District students got an extra day added to their weekends as the PCSD went virtual on Monday and Booneville declared a snow day for the start of the week.
School starts were delayed by two hours in both districts on Tuesday morning due to the threat of icing from moisture remaining on roads and bridges.
Total accumulations in the county were estimated at as much as an inch, leaving trees and buildings covered and allowing enough snow for snowball fights and snowmen.
Few problems were reported on area roadways as crews from the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the city street department and county supervisor districts put down salt and sand on bridges to provide for safer travel.
