PEARL — Booneville’s John Daniel Deaton, one of 12 seniors, hit an inside-the-park grand slam to start the game, setting the stage for the Blue Devils as they dominated Magee, winning 12-4 over the Trojans to capture the MHSAA Class 3A State Championship at Trustmark Park on Saturday.

Booneville scored four runs in the first, two in the second, four more in the fourth and one in the sixth while starting pitcher Ben Davis went four innings for the victory. Kade White pitched the final three innings in relief.

Head Coach Kevin Williams and his staff guided Booneville to their first state title since they won the Class 2A championship in 1999.

The Devils finish the 2021 campaign 26-11.
