Booneville aldermen have approved repairs to one of the city’s historic jewels.
Aldermen voted Tuesday to accept a pair of low quotes for the repair of damaged brick at the city-owned historic Booneville Hardware Building.
City Tourism and Community Development Director Lori Tucker said North Mississippi Masonry LLC submitted the low quotes for the work at a cost of $27,500 for exterior repairs and $7,750 for interior repairs. Tucker said the company expects to begin work by the end of the month or the first week of March.
In other business, the board:
Approved promoting Mitchell George to a crew leader at the street department.
Approved obtaining state contract quotes for the purchase of a pickup truck in the street department.
Approved the purchase of a 2021 Dodge Ram truck at the state contract price of $28,849 for the gas and water department.
Approved the purchase of three portable pitcher mounds for the park department using park and tourism tax funds at a cost of up to $16,000.
Approved a quote of $9,520 from Expert Concrete for work on the two pavilions at the new playground at Plumrose Park.
Approved the installation of streetlights on Downing Drive.
Approved the waiver of building permit fees for construction of a home to be built on Cedar Street for a victim of Tropical Storm Olga. The home is being constructed at no cost to the homeowner through donations from a variety of individuals and organizations.
The board met Tuesday via the Zoom online teleconferencing program due to severe weather which has forced the continued closure of city offices through at least Wednesday.
