Authorities have one person in custody in connection with the discovery of a body early Tuesday morning in Wheeler.
Prentiss County Sheriff Randy Tolar said a 911 call led deputies to the home on County Road 5011 in Wheeler around 2:54 a.m. Tuesday morning where the deputy found an open door and upon entering discovered one person deceased in the residence.
Investigators called for assistance from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and before the state personnel arrived they had determined a person of interest and began contacting other area law enforcement to assist with locating the person.
The sheriff said the suspect was located in a mobile home park inside the Booneville City Limits just after 9 a.m. and taken into custody by Booneville Police. Another individual with them was also taken into custody.
No charges had been filed at press time early Wednesday morning and Tolar said he expects to be able to release more information soon.
“This is still a very active and fluid investigation,” he said.
The sheriff thanked all the agencies involved in the case including Booneville PD, MBI and the Baldwyn police, as well as the public, for their assistance.
“Critical information was given by numerous citizens that helped us develop a suspect and fill in gaps in our time line all of which helped the investigation progress very quickly,” he said.
