“Visions of sugar plums” can already dance in everyone’s heads as Four Seasons Garden Club members announce that they are taking orders for their 10th annual Holiday Wreath sale fundraiser.
The Four Seasons Garden Club is celebrating 50 years in existence and this is the club’s tenth year to hold the fundraiser that has been popular with local residents and businesses — the sale of fresh-cut holiday wreaths.
The wreath sale is just one way the club is able to fund its many community projects, many of which benefit the community through beauty, historic restoration or sheer entertainment.
Some projects with which the organization has been, or is currently involved in, include: Corinth’s first beautification council; providing fresh flowers to county home residents; actively pursuing anti-litter campaigns; providing holiday home tours in December; spring luncheon and entertaining hat show; organizing flower shows, floral workshops and programs; physically and financially participating in the Veranda House restoration and beautification; and providing funds, flowers or actively maintaining many other beautification projects in Corinth.
Holiday Wreath Sale co-chair Jean Redders said that one of the reasons to purchase a wreath would be the fact that the fundraiser is local and for a good cause.
“Of course, the community benefits ... we give back to the community and so the money stays in the community,” said Redders.
Redders, along with Four Seasons Garden Club member Cheryl Meints, both said another reason to order the fresh cut wreaths is the fact that they are naturally beautiful and smell good.
Meints, who has served as chairperson for the event in the past, said the sale has been a popular fundraiser with an average order size of 150 wreaths. The event began as a fundraiser in which the club members would focus only on canvassing local businesses. However, the past year or so has seen a big increase in wreath sales to individuals, she said.
The wreaths are delivered directly to the home or business of the buyer, with the exception of orders placed from other cities. This year, customers can look toward the last week of November or the first week of December for their wreath to be delivered.
Garden club members will be canvassing local businesses Thursday for wreath sales. Anyone else wishing to purchase a wreath, may contact either of the aforementioned individuals. Former customers will get a letter in the mail.
The wreath comes with a “thank you” tag that has care directions on the back. Meintz said that following the directions will help the wreath last throughout the holiday season.
The wreaths are Noble Fir wreaths with yellow-budded incense cedar, blueberry juniper and ponderosa pinecones. The fragrant, traditional holiday decoration comes in two sizes and prices — a 24-inch wreath for $27, and a 34-inch wreath for $40. Payment must be made when the order is placed.
Those wishing to place an order for a holiday wreath may contact Jean Redders at (662) 603-5237 or Brenda Polcyn at (662) 286-9501. The deadline for orders is Wednesday, Sept. 16.
