A significant threat of severe weather has led to the postponement of the Corinth Home & Garden Tour.

The event will be moved to next Saturday, May 1 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The tour, which will serve as a benefit for the restoration of the historic Verandah Curlee House, was originally scheduled for this Saturday. Bill Avery, one of the organizers of the event, said they had spoken with all those involved and decided to postpone everything for a week because of the threat of severe thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service is calling for a 100 percent chance of thunderstorms on Saturday with the possibility that some may be severe.

The tour will give participants the opportunity for an upclose look at one of Corinth’s oldest homes and Alcorn County’s oldest church building.

The Fillmore Street Chapel will host entertainment throughout the day and food and garden tents will be set up on the green space near the chapel. The tour stops - Oak Home, The Columns and the chapel - are within walking distance, and a silent auction of fine art will be set up in the garage of The Columns.

Mary Dee Kemp, one of the tour’s organizers, said admission to the tour is $10 and includes the home tours and entertainment in the chapel. However, admission to the tour is not required to visit the garden and art sale tent or the food tent.
