Corinth Youth Attend Camp Near Pickwick

A group of young people from the Corinth Methodist Churches and their guests will be enjoying camping activities along with a religious program at the Y.M.C.A. Camp at Pickwick this weekend. The group will leave from the First Methodist Church after lunch on Friday and return to Corinth Monday afternoon.

The theme chosen for this year is “Old Fashioned Virtues.”

The Rev. Jack Woodward will be camp director and counselors will be Dr. and Mrs. Richard Warriner, Mr. and Mrs. Erskine Williams, Jr. Don Strickland will be in charge of the water front activities.

Attending the camp will be Eleanor Liddon, Judy Mowery, Harriet Wilson, Joyce Howie, Betty Barkley, Jan Keaton, Max Smith, Wayne Carpenter, Gordon Crockett, Jack Hart, Burt Coleman, Paul Smith, Milton Sandy, Bill Hardin, Richard Warriner, Bobby Fooshee, Jimmy McMahan, Johnny Tankersley, Peter Bowman and Denny Hoorn.

Have Party On Birthday 

A group of friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Larkin Wigginton on South Parkway Wednesday evening to help Mr. Wigginton celebrate his birthday.

Mrs. Bill Wright made and decorated a beautiful and very delicious cake for the occasion.

Enjoying the dinner and conversation afterwards were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wright and daughters, Janie and Mary Lou, Mr. and Mrs. Jamerson Payne, Carolyn and James Harris, Miss Bette Galyean, Melinda and Melissa Wigginton.

Mrs. Mullins Party Honoree 

Mrs. Jewel Sexton entertained for Mrs. Tommy Mullins at a stork shower recently at her home.

After the honoree opened her lovely gifts, Mrs. Sexton served party refreshments to the guests who included; Mrs. Irene Null, Mrs. Frances Null, Mrs. Lola Hodum, Gail Hodum, Mrs. Martha Hodum, Mrs. Jettie Moss.

Coach Smith At Alumni Meeting 

Alumni of Ole Miss enjoyed a banquet on Thursday evening at the Cannoneer Restaurant with Mr. Bill Sharp acting as master of ceremonies for the event.

This group, not only from Corinth but from all of Alcorn County, are very active in the association and a large crowd was present at this meeting.

Highlight of the evening was a most interesting and well presented talk by Coach Tad Smith of the Ole Miss Athletic Department. His main points concerned the athletic and scholastic standing of the school. Coach Smith also discussed the football team and their schedule for this fall.

The Ole Miss Alumni were shown a film of the outstanding Sugar Bowl game between Ole Miss and L.S.U.

Also attending the meeting was Bill Griffith, alumni secretary, from Ole Miss who spoke to the group. 

A.C.D.C. Club Holds Meeting

The Biggersville A.C.D.C. Club held its regular monthly meeting at the school Monday night with the president, Carroll Hudson, presiding.

The devotional was given by George Settle and the roll was called by the secretary. The minutes were read and approved by the club.

The president introduced and welcomed visitors Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Lambert and son, Mr. A.D. Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. W.B. DePoyster of the Glen A.C.D.C. Club.

Mrs. Bertha Moss and Mr. Leo James were appointed for the fair booth committee.

Bruce’s Drive-In 

Members of Bruce’s softball team which won the YMCA Slo-Pitch League’s championship celebrated with a banquet last night at Bruce’s Drive-In. Attending were Ronald Brawner, Jerry Rogers, Buddy Gurley, manager, Carroll Sharp, Nert Emmons, Larry Doran and Frank Hutson. Also, Chester Harville, waiter; Bruce Brown, sponsor, and Don Smith, waiter.
