A 13-year-old who allegedly stole a vehicle and drove almost 700 miles is facing charges in Corinth and Ohio.

After she was reported missing last week, the Corinth Police Department put out an alert identifying her as Acelon Spears. Capt. Dell Green said she potentially faces a charge of motor vehicle theft.

“We are referring the case to youth court,” he said. Because of her age, “We can’t issue a warrant and extradite her back down here.”

The police department had not learned exactly what happened in Akron, Ohio, where the vehicle was recovered, but she is facing a criminal charge there also.

Spears was reported missing last Tuesday. Green said she came to Corinth with family and had been in the Corinth area for a couple of weeks.

Last Tuesday evening, she stayed overnight with an individual on Main Street. That individual awoke to discover Spears and the vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Caliber, were gone.
